This Mother's day unravel these gifts!

Updated: May 8, 2023

Are precious gem stones more important to you or gem moments of pure bliss and relaxation?

First take a moment, before you proceed. Close down down the eyes if you can do so safely, or softening your gaze and bring a vision of your beautiful mama's face in front of you. Then send her a thought of gratitude, knowing that she will wrap you with her loving embrace wherever she is.

As mother's day approaches, I always think about my beautiful Amma whose birthday it is on 12th May. She is no longer with us but her presence is deep in my heart and entire being all the time.

Don't you think Mothers are superhuman beings? Along with being carers and prime providers of all things at home with demands on time from all the members of the family, most of us mamas also have careers. But the best part: like the delicious, soft, gooey, sweet icing on the cake we also have the privilege of experiencing (mostly) this one potent feeling that is UNCONDITIONAL love, for our babies. To experience that is so truly special. I am unsure if our male counterparts feel as deeply as we do for our babies, I sure hope they do.

While Mothers stand there with their superhumans badges, I will go one step further and say.. the Mommies who are going through Peri/menopause..those Menopausal Mothers are metahumans! (are you into Marvel?)

Having to manage the day, home, work, partner, kids, chores, life in general as though everything is normal when really the turmoil, bouncing and seesawing the body and mind does during Peri/menopause is a more than a superhuman feat (and yes I had to look up to see what was more powerful than superhuman)

So if you are a Metahuman, this blog is dedicated to you and this is my Mother's day advice to you.

While you appreciate and are genuinely grateful for the secretly created, wonderfully hand drawn, crayon filled heart shapes, glinting at you with joy, you need something a bit more ROBUST and REWARDING for being a Metahuman this Mother's day.

And, SO I have created this list which I know will unravel the pure gems of joy and relaxation for your nervous system. Let's be candid here, you need that potent, deep reaching, wonderful nourishment for your nervous system. That is the main controller of the body and in Peri/menopause it is short circuiting a bit.

There are a range of options and price points in the list, and I have catered for the New Zealand demographic. You can find a local equivalent service or product to give you the same result.

All of these are with the best impact for you, your hormones and nervous system in mind.

In no particular order.

1. School of Modern Meditation (SOMM) membership

https://www.wearesomm.co/

Memberships start from NZ$ 35 a week and you can cancel anytime.

As we embark on our Peri/menopause transition, we need to find restorative, calming practices to be able to cope with the turmoil that goes on inside. Meditation is known to change the chemicals in the brain and massively impacts the mind which in turn soothes the nervous system. While modern research is probing and proving this, yogis for generations have known and been practicing this. SOMM, offers daily classes, some brilliant workshops and events and really affordable (you cannot put a price on a calm mind) membership options.

2. Mater Beauty Face Ritual Pack

https://mater.beauty/

Founder: Petra Škorić

I WOKE UP LIKE THIS Beyond-hydration Perfecting Serum + YOU ARE MY SUNSHINE Supercharged Glow Drops = magic together

$150.00 NZD

Mater's website says it all, "Put yourself at the top of your endless to-do list for just a few moments each day. Enjoy a MATER moment with these potent, synergistic and nurturing skin & hair care products, Because you deserve to be nurtured too."

We definitely need some effective treatment for our face as we get older, but also be mindful of what we are putting on our skin and also its impact to the environment.

I have been using these two face serums and OMG they are luxurious! The sensation on the skin and the aroma of pure goodness transports me to somewhere exotic every single time.

3. Doterra Diffuser and Essential oils

https://www.doterra.com/NZ/en_NZ/mothers-day

I treated myself to some essential oils to help with my sleep and hormones and I am going to buy a diffuser too. This will benefit not just me but the whole household. Choose essential oils that are going to support your nervous system and mind. Peppermint good to give you that energy boost. Lavender to get you to sleep. Camomile to calm. Doterra's promise is to sell only 100% pure essential oils that is pure and free from contaminants or synthetic fillers. They also have a rewarding system and a great network/support group.

4. Slowe studio Sweat and Chill

www.slowestudio.co.nz

I highly recommend this! It is pure bliss getting into the infrared Sauna in the winter months when the joints and muscles are crying out for some love! And you reinvigorate your nervous system at the same time. If you are brave to face the ice cold dips then that is even better for you. It takes courage and a lot of breathing to step into the ice bath. Start with only 30secs of ice bath and slowly build up. I took my husband and did the Sweat + Chill for two last year and it was great. A nice way to actually talk to your partner (a rare treat!)

5. Massage Gun, Recover Pro

https://recoverpro.co.nz/

NZ$ 199

We bought this massage gun (it was actually Alex who was sold on it straight away) and truly it is so so good! Some of the benefits that stood out for me : Increases blood circulation to muscles, flushes out lactic acid, reduces muscle tension and soreness, improves flexibility and range of motion. All of these we need as we get older and our general blood circulation stops. It has a 6 massage heads so it can get to the nooks and crannies of your aching body. REALLY GOOD. I lie down on my front and my kids take turns to massage my back! Def coming up on mother's day

6. Shakti Mat

www.shaktimat.co.nz

NZ$94.00

This is a torturing kinda bliss! But trust me you will love it once you give yourself time to practice. Shakti mats are based on acupressure points. And their website says: "Like yoga and meditation, acupressure begins with discomfort. As you learn to let go and invite the pressure in, you're rewarded with deep and restorative relaxation" And it's true, i can easily lie on the mat for more than 10mins now.

They have a Mother's day 20% off. Also check out the Why Shakti section on their website. There are different levels of intensity so you can workout what you think you can manage.

7. Noom App

www.noom.com

Now this is a bit controversial for me to add in the blog. I don't diet and while I am conscious about what and how much I eat, I fail big time with diets and I do not want to promote any weight loss stuff. HOWEVER, this app (that i have not used personally but a friend of mine has) is more about setting goals and monitoring what you eat. It makes it easy for you to keep track and has had good results with my friend.

It is totally up to you but I know that many women struggle with weight and more than that struggle with the impact that this weight gain has on their self esteem, worth and confidence. If this app will help you become more aware of what you are eating and give you detailed information on the foods that you are putting in your body, surely that is a good thing.

While you are here, make sure you have downloaded my 20 points to set yourself and your environment up for Sleep and DEEP rest. These are tried and tested and based on ancient science of Ayurveda, Circadian rhythm and also a sleep hygiene list, plants you can have in your bedroom and the likes. Its free and I am sure you will learn something new. Get access now!
